Summary
The Salamandersociety started in 1980 as Salamander & Newt study group from the Dutch Society for Herpetology and Herpetoculture, LACERTA. Since 2001 it has become an independent society.
Goals of the society are:
  • investigation on newts and salamanders to increase knowledge on life history, behaviour and breeding,
  • investigation on the right conditions necessary to keep and breed salamanders and newts,
  • stimulation of her members to improve methods to breed and raise newts and salamanders,
  • organising regular meetings to improve contacts between members,
  • exchange the knowledge between keepers of salamanders and newts,
  • publications of results to members for instance in her own magazine (The Newsletter).
Four times a year meetings are organised of which one is a general field day with lectures and possibilities to exchange animals, literature and etc.
Four times a year a Newsletter is published with articles, advertisements, book references and news on salamanders.
The Salamandersociety also keeps close contact with sistergroups like the German Arbeitsgruppe URODELA of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Herpetologie und Terrariumkunde e.V. (DGHT) and other people all over the world who are interested in newts and salamanders.
